Carol O'Callaghan
Co. Donegal-based protrait artist & illustrator
A carefully tailored product requires time and planning with over thirty years of experience I know how important the gift of a portrait is.
Whether it’s celebrating the life and work of colleagues and friends, our children or loved ones who have passed on there is nothing more personal, or bespoke, than a portrait.
The medium of portrait painting in oils requires a technique of layering and drying. It is one of the oldest practices in the profession, but there is a reason it has endured since the great masters of the renaissance – its longevity, atmospheric and timeless.
Part of the privilege of being an artist is bringing all that atmosphere and personality to your portrait, my delight is seeing the expression on peoples faces when they see their portrait for the first time, I often hear, it’s much more than I was expecting and its usually an emotional experience.

Good Morning Glenveagh
A keen illustrator Carol produced her first children’s book in 2018.
I was conscious there was plenty of beautiful books on Donegal and while working as a tour guide in Glenveagh many years ago I had often thought that the children on my tours would really have enjoyed seeing the place through the eyes someone their age .It also gave me an excuse to celebrate the life of one Gracie Mc Dermott who I resided with as a young woman and of whom I have many fond memories and also celebrate my time at Glenveagh Castle.
The book retails at Glenveagh Castle in County Donegal, Dunfanaghy Work House and Dunfanaghy The Gallery, Mc Cauliffs of Dunfanaghy, Donegal Airport, Easons of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and the Four Masters book shop Donegal Town.
